Last weekend I stopped at two sales in a nearby neighborhood - they were both a bust.. but I "pulled a Martin" as I call it now because of my favorite blog, and stopped at two huge garbage piles right down the road. I pulled out some silver plate flatware, an old in-dash Pioneer tape deck (completeds here) and several military flight suits and a flight jacket made of 100% Aramid (completeds here). Not going to make me a millionaire but solid finds for sure. Today was trash day in our neighborhood, and I stopped at a promising box and pulled out a Vera Bradley purse. Seriously WTF?
After a SLOWWW few weeks I was getting frustrated and disheartened with eBay. I decided to go "back to basics" and work things like I did last year when I first started eBaying. Yep, auctions! I ran a bunch of .99 auctions on some of my kids old clothes - stuff I wanted out of the house but didn't want to donate. Those sales spurred more sales and I turned out to have the best week I have had since the fall. Yesterday was a huge day for me and I made over $450. This gave me a big eBay boost which I was needing, and also gave me some blog-energy. I will plan on updated monthly or semi monthly with some highlights.
I've been working hard the past two months listing TONS. I had over 700 items for a few days - followed by a bunch of sales, and haven't caught back up yet.
Some fun highlights since I last updated - as always I charged shipping unless otherwise stated:
This wooden serving lotus sold for $179.99
The leaves detach as bowls, and there is a bowl in the middle.
I profited about $140
Purchased at an estate sale in the fall
This is a QVC fragrance that I paid $2 for at an estate sale.
It sold on auction for the opening bid of $19.99
This is an example of me going back to basics. I needed the cash flow that the auctions afforded.
Thanks to other bloggers I finally decided to buy some fragrances - so far so good!
I can't remember where I got these Fire King restaurant ware bowls.
I do remember paying $2 though.
Sold for $26
I paid $1 for this Red Wings poster at an estate sale
I took a best offer of $20
Of course it wouldn't be a Beach Thrifter update without me boring you over flatware
This lot of Oneida Tortellini pattern sold for $120 Free Shipping (small flat rate box)
I continue to love selling flatware:)
I bought 4 of these at an estate sale. I looked behind a door in a laundry room and there was tons of ziplocs etc. I remembered reading a blog post that vintage types of these would sell on eBay. This is wax paper. The pink box with little mod flowers caught my eye.
I've sold one so far for $9.99
I bought a dozen or so Life's Good hats at NWT or NWOT at Second Chance thrift maybe 6 weeks ago. These hats retail for $20. I sold this one for $39.99 Free Shipping
Several others have sold for full price, and some for best offer. I've made at least $15 on each one. This is a great example of charging what you think people will pay - not what the MSRP is. I chose to charge more because these are all discontinued designs.
This butter dish is AMAZING.
It literally still had butter in it when I bought it at an estate sale.
I paid $2, sold for $19.99.
I think the new owner probably gets a lot of joy every time she uses it, it's just so cool.
I hope that your spring has been filled with lots of amazing finds and sales. I hope that the pollen isn't as bad where you are as it is in Virginia Beach. Today's count was over 1800! And that you and your families are in good health. Let me know what's been going on with you and your thrifting.
Welcome back! Those are some amazing sales!!!
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteLove the lotus bowl.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, it's not giving me a comment box at the bottom to post to, but it is letting me have one to reply to other posts. Great sales! I do a lot of auctions through the summer, too. I've found that it really helps to spur sales during these slower months. I run across a lot of flatware. Have you come up with a good way to identify patterns? I do google searches and ebay searches, but there are so many!
DeleteYes I bought this book
Deletehttp://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Flatware-Guide-Bob-Page/dp/157432067X/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429726884&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=stainlessflatware+guide
80% of the time I find the pattern in this book. Next I check their website replacements.com - If I haven't found it by then I check eBay and use keywords (small rose, satin handle, etc) - if I still don't find it I describe it as best as possible, and very often it still sells!
So glad to see you blogging again! You are rockin' the sales chica! That lotus bowl - wow! Great score on the hats - love 2nd Chance! I have nothing listed on eBay but I've been buying like a woman possessed.
ReplyDeleteMy best find for my personal stash was this weekend. I saw a turquoise snowflake Pyrex casserole and asked the price. The man said 25 . . . and I immediately started calculating in my mind the highest price I would pay. Then he said . . . cents!!! It was very hard to keep my poker face and to keep my hands from shaking. I was high the rest of the day. I also got a big ole bag of Legos for $5 - haven't had time to even peek at them. Got 10 things from a couponer for 2/$1 - Pantene conditioner, shampoo; Resolve, etc. I went to a yard sale and bought this mint vintage pink Lady Remington shaver that was never used, for a whole $1. It doesn't get a whole lot on eBay but it's in such fabulous shape - still has the original price tag in the case. Also found an Alf and TMNT vintage twin sheets for $1 each.
And yes - the pollen is outrageous this year. So glad the rain washed some of it away last night. Stop by VBAM if you can - lots of new vendors. Cargo Imports took up a lot of space upstairs and they moved out. The owners moved their toy shop upstairs and lots of vendors moved downstairs. One of the original gals whose booth was next to mine decided to get out and yep - I grabbed it. I have a little breathing room and it feels great. Now I need to fill it up with the inventory that is screaming to get out of my storage(s).
who sells pyrex for a quarter??? geesh! Those vintage sheets are a great find!
DeleteI still have never been to the VBAM - but it sounds like now would be a fun time to go.
Those are some great sales and some unique items too. That lotus bowl thing. Wow! Never saw anything like that before. Great thinking to pick up the vintage waxed paper. There are 3 huge sales coming up this Friday near me. One is a church parking lot sale that starts at 6am. It's pretty dark at that hour, but I'll be there and ready to rummage!
ReplyDeleteI'd never seen anything like it either which is why I bought it. I priced it about 100 more than the other two or three listed on ebay as well. And it sold!
DeleteNot much going on in Minneapolis yet, but there will be a huge neighborhood sale Mother's Day weekend. I love seeing all your sales! It helps to know what the heck to be looking for!
ReplyDeleteThanks - good luck at the sale!
DeleteWelcome back! It looks like your blogging break treated you well. That lotus is amazing, I've never seen anything quite like it. And I find flatware very interesting, not boring at all. :-) Are your best flatware scores at estate sales?
ReplyDeleteI also just wanted to let you know that I moved my blog to www.shethrifts.com . Blogrolls aren't automatically redirected, unfortunately. I just noticed I am included on yours (thanks!) and that it shows my last blog post as the one I wrote at the old address. If you have a sec to update it, my new posts will show up. :-)
DeleteGlad things picked up for you. That lotus bowl was amazing! Wow!
